Recipe for Dominican Sancocho

In my country, we usually eat Sancocho for lunch and dinner.

1 lb of goat meat
1 lb of sausage
1 lb of pork meat
2 lbs of beef on the bone
1 whole chicken (2lbs)
2 pounds of pork chops
1 pound of smoked ham bones
4 halves of lemon
1 spoon of crushed garlic
4 spoonfuls of oil
2 big, green peppers chopped in cubes
½ spoons of yuccas cut, chopped in 1 inch pieces
½ pound of yam
2 tablespoons of celery
½ pound of malanga cut in 3 inch pieces
½ pound of potato cut in 1 inch pieces
3 plantains, 2 cut in 1 inch pieces
2 cubes of beef boullion
2 pieces of corn on the cob, cut in 1 inch pieces
½ teaspoonful of oregano flakes
1/2 teaspoonful of cilantro
2 teaspoonfuls of vinegar
2 spoonfuls of hot sauce or bitter orange

What I Did This Summer

This summer I did many things. I played baseball and basketball, I went to the pool, and I went to summer school. In summer school, I met new friends, including Hildaliza , Roel, and Mrs. Almanzar. I learned how to make a blog. I also learned the Pledge of Allegiance. School was fun and difficult. My favorite part about summer school was playing English games, learning about contractions, and vowels. After summer school, I usually go to the park and play basketball with my friends. Then on the weekends, I usually go shopping in the Bronx with my friends and go to parties. I am happy that summer is almost over because I learned many things, but now I need a break.

A Typical Day At My School

I am in high school. I am in the 9th grade. School begins at 8:30 A.M. I have six classes. My first class is English. It is my best class because I do well. Then I go to art. I like it because it is easy. Lunch is at 12:00 p.m. I like lunch because I like to eat. Then I go to math. I like math because I want to learn. Then I go to science. I like it just a little bit because I can’t understand. It ends at 3:00 pm. My favorite teachers are Mrs. Gramonte and Mr. Frank because they teach me how to learn. School in the United States is different from D.R because there are lockers, Smartboards, water fountains, and fire alarms. It is very, very big and beautiful. Lunch is also free. Also, I am learning many new things like English, computer, and art.

What It’s Like in the United States

Sleepy Hollow is beautiful, small, and quiet. It has buildings, farms, and supermarkets.The weather is sometimes cold and hot.The food I like is Chinese food and Dominican food. The schools are big and beautiful. I like school because I want to learn English. My new friends are Yoddy and Luisa Maria. During my free time here, I go to the park to practice baseball. Learning English is sometimes difficult and easy. What I miss about my home country is my father, grandfather, and my family and everything.
